Benedict A. Stanberry, Principal IHLM (UK), will spearhead two high impact masterclasses to be held in conjunction with the summit. Speaking about the master class on ‘Improving Cultural Competence and Sensitivity’, Stanberry said ‘Gulf countries such as the United Arab Emirates are a haven for hundreds of nationalities with distinct cultures, languages and beliefs – all of whom have different attitudes towards illness and divergent needs and preferences when it comes to receiving care. Healthcare providers must understand these differences, respect them and be responsive to them if they are to be successful in this culturally diverse region and also attract medical tourists to their facilities. In this Masterclass we will discover one of the most interesting and exciting new fields of patient experience: ‘cultural competence’. We will define what cultural competence is and why it matters before exploring some of the important recent research that demonstrates how the cultural competence of healthcare providers and professionals affects patient experience and satisfaction’
