LINET offers a Sustainable Investment Model for Quality Care and Cost Savings

Jitka Stranska, Managing Director LINET Middle East and Africa

Patient bed is definitely one of the most important amenities of a hospital room. It is the place where patients spend most of their time and it is also an essential tool for nursing staff. The purchase and maintenance of beds is a significant item in budgets. We, therefore, consider the bed as an important long-term investment that needs to be carefully considered. A good selection can positively affect the patient experience, shorten the recovery process, support nurses daily procedures, improve nurses’ safety and also bring time savings.

One of the best examples of how a bed designed to address real in-bed patient care can bring tangible benefits to the patient, nurse, and management is lateral tilt.

The effect of the lateral tilt of the loading surface is that through a slight rotation recumbent patients are turned over on their side. During this operation, the nurse simply releases the tilt control button (preferably on the bed foot control) and slightly holds the patient in the direction of the bed surface. With the bed tilted to the side, the nurse uses up to 67% less force when turning the patient than with the same operation on a normal bed. One nurse, instead of two, can handle the patient and make the bed. This allows the patient to be given full care even when the number of staff is reduced, for example on weekends or night shifts.

What are the real savings?

For an ICU unit with 20 beds, lateral tilt can bring a net time saving of ~ 9 hours of nursing time per day, which saves 3,418 nurse working hours per year. For example, in the UAE, where the average hourly rate for nurses is $24 an hour, using 20 beds with lateral tilt creates an annual saving of $ 82,000!

Our goal is not only to involve the beds in the recovery process as much as possible and to strengthen the effects of the therapy. We also strive to provide a solution that helps reduce the physical burden on caregivers. Reducing the physical burden allows for better adherence to the care process as well as improved caregiver efficiency. It also provides a safe working environment that leads to workforce stabilization. Our priority is to offer a sustainable model where a higher initial investment in quality products ensures a return on costs and provides other benefits through professional support, such as staff training and professional accredited service..Stay with us for more innovative solutions with a higher potential for return on investments.
